Instructor: Mrs. Deborah Murayama, Mandarin Coach
Mrs. Murayama was a kindergarten teacher and school director in Taiwan for many years. She came to the US in 1990 for higher education. Mrs. Murayama joined HUSD in 1996 as a music teacher. She served as the FLAP Grant Mandarin Specialist from 2011-2013. Currently, she is the part-time Mandarin Coach at Stonebrae School.
Classroom syllabus:
This is an introductory Chinese culture and language class. The class will include Chinese Mandarin listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will learn basic daily Chinese Mandarin through conversations such as greeting, thank you, goodbye and how to introduce yourself to other people. Students will also receive their Chinese names during this course study. The class will cover basic Chinese phonics, stroke order and intonation. There will be a half hour Language Lab time from 4:00-4:30pm. Student may choose to do the Lab hour in class or at home. This class is designed for adults; therefore, homework and tests are optional. However, there are classroom rules: bring your positive attitude, laugh and have fun!
